Drilling through ceramic tiles Advice and information on tiling and fixing tiles to a variety of surfaces

I've got a query about drilling through ceramic tiles.

I know I need to use a diamond drill bit, but we need to drill a hole size of about 38mm in order for the sink waste pipe to fit through (we're installing a ceramic bowl on top of a tiled surface). Would anyone advise against this or have any ideas on how to go about this?
