Drilling Vertically Through Ceiling for Ethernet Cable

by DrDanGBitz » Thu Nov 21, 2019 10:22 am

So I would like to install an ethernet cable from my downstairs lounge into my bedroom upstairs. I would like to drill through the corner of the lounge ceiling, which is the middle of the joining wall of an end terrace house, and this will come up into the bedroom (although not in the corner, it will come up along that joining wall). You will have to forgive me, I'm very handy with DIY but not with the lingo.
I want to just check for joists with a stud finder, and drill up (not through a joist), into the bedroom. The ethernet cable is flat so its no problem if it comes out from the wall slightly as it can go under the carpet. Then i plan to put expanding foam in the hole and tidy up the exits.
I just want to ask what to watch out for. Is there anything to be careful of, has anyone done this before that can advise? I have some extra long drill bits already.
