driveway help have that sinking feeling!!!!!

by andy114 » Mon May 04, 2009 11:45 pm

I have started to change the shape off my drveway to fit two cars on it. I have removed a flower bed and grass area est 12 msq. I plan to fit 50mm 600mm x 600mm flags so i have dug down just over 300mm. But the ground is firm but can drive 3x2 wood stake over 150mm. If i dig 1ft to 2ft further i get to sand.

could anyone give me some advice if this is ok??

or anyway to get round it

thanks
andy

Very often if you dig down perhaps 18 inches you will find a hard layer of stones - a good base.
Otherwise - prepare the area to fit the cars by digging out and clearing about six inches then lay reinforced concrete as a raft to carry your chosen cosmetic finish.
