Drywall sander doesn't seem to get rid of previous brush strokes

by Jogey » Thu Jun 01, 2023 1:57 pm

Hi all,

I am attempting to sand down a wall in a property I recently moved into.
The wall had lots of bumpy repairs and has had previous coats of paint put on in a messy way. I am trying to sand down the imperfections to prepare for repainting.
I bought the Evolution R225DWS drywall sander and have just used it on the wall. It does seem to make the wall straight but previous brush strokes and repairs still show through and I think these would show through if I painted over them. He had painted over previous colour paints a few times so when I sand previous colours come through.
I am attaching a photo. Any advice about how to deal with this would be appreciated.

Hi jogey,
In order to get rid of the ridged effect you could try filling with an interior filler and sanding once it’s set. If this doesn’t work you may have to get the walls skimmed.
Regards S
