I am currently working on an existing building which was used as a hatchery for an egg farm. The owners are converting the building to be used as further domestic accomodation.
The external cavity wall is made up of two skins of brick with a 60mm cavity. To bring it up to the required insulation value it is proposed to fill the cavity with insulation and then place 25mm of celatex to the inner leaf with 50mm x 25mm batterns & one layer of 12mm plasterboarding. The walls would then be plastered. - Is this sufficient ?
The existing floor is made up from a concrete slab. It is proposed to use 50mm celatex over a synthoproof coating on the slab. Any greater thickness would cause a problem to existing door heights. Floor boarding would then be laid. Would this be a problem ?
The existing windows are upvc sealed units. As far as Iam aware the glass is not "k" glass. Is there any method of improving the insulation quality of the existing glass without having to replace the windows at great expense ?
