Hi

can anyone advise me if I can just apply a lacquer to my oiled floor so I don't have to keep oiling it?

Also is there a lacquer that will still give an oiled finish look?

Sadly there are no waterbased lacquers that can be applied over the top of Oil based products. (Oil and water do not mix.)
There are a few products that give the Matt level of oil like Naturale from Bona. There are still some specialist solvent products around that will give the darkening of the wood that an oil gives you like PV67 from Sadolin but I am not aware of a lacquer that mimics both with all the advantages of a lacquer.
Are you using Oil (a natural pine oil type) or Hardwax Oil. If only using an Oil you could apply a hardwax Oil over the surface, this will be better than an oil just not as good as a lacquer.

Thanks Tall tone, you mentioned solvent products, would these lessen the amount I am waxing?

I currently use a watery wax and am finding that the floor is easily scratched and I need to wax every few months. I'm about to get the rest of down stairs floored and was hoping to buy laquered and match the floor already down, but I guess from what you say this isn't going to be possible?

I current need to re wax every few months and find the floor scratches easily.

Check compatibility of the Hardwax on a small area first before doing the whole floor.
If you want to change to a lacquer surface you will need to sand off the old product first. I would suggest a flat matt waterbased product like Traffic or Naturale over a solvent based any day, but the floor will be lighter than the solvent based. There are some primers around that will darken the wood if that is what you want.
