External Stop Tap Location

by leemacdog » Thu Aug 21, 2008 10:00 pm

I need to locate my external stop tap. I have contacted the water company and the say they can come and locate it but they will charge me to do this. Surely there is a way that I can find it myself, any ideas?

Stop taps are installed in the foot path for newer buildings or in the verge or just inside your boundary for older properties.

Check with you neighbours where theirs is. Do you share supplies with others and only have one tap for two or four properties?

It is possible the stop tap has become covered. Try to work out how the pipe would have been laid based on the entry to the house.

Hi,

Some pointers: You need to look for a 4" cover normally cast metal either in your garden towards the road or on the pavement adjacent to your property. But beware once found check with your neighbours - it may stop theirs too.
