Filling gap between built-in cupboard and ceiling

by Ste_Mulv » Fri Jul 03, 2020 1:41 pm

Hi there,

I am in the process of fitting built-in wardrobes, but my ceilings are all over the place.

I have cut the wardrobes down to the same height, but all 3 units have a different gap between the ceiling and top, between 5-20mm wide.

I was assuming that I could fill with chalk, but I don't think this will work now as I think the large amount of chalk needed will sag under its own weight and the knife I will use to get a straight edge will push it back into the void.

Maybe there is something like a rubber bead that I can stuff in before chalk to provide some structure to chalk against.

Any ideas?

hi ste_mulv
Easiest solution is to fill with expanding foam, when set rake it back and fill. A more fiddly solution is to buy something like ex 10X30 strip, trim it to match your ceiling and fix in place.

Thanks!

I have watched a youtube video on the expanding foam method and it looks ok, I just have a fear of the stuff after my mum was overzealous with expanding foam once and it was oozing out of the hole for ages after!

I'll give it a go, wish me luck!
