Finishing advice needed for pine table restoration

by WG1895 » Tue May 19, 2020 9:52 am

Morning all,

First post on the forum so apologies if it's not quite in the right section.

As most people during the current situation i have began a small DIY project.

I've begun to sand down a Pine Table but i am now getting to the point where i need some finishing ideas (Varnish, Wax..). The original finish was very orange in colour, something i am wanted to avoid but it was a very hard wearing finish and took some time to remove both by hand and Sander so i'm looking at something ideally as durable to avoid scratches etc. The table was first purchased in the early 1980s so was overdue some TLC.

I'll shortly be using 100/120 paper before the final finishing begins so any advice on what looks best, different ideas, and any general do's and don'ts would be great.

Please see pics attached (more can be sent / added by request)
