Hi, Its very unusual for a hollow door not to have a lock block which is a square piece of timber put especialy in the door for fitting a lock or latch to. This is just a usefull for a handle or knob if you can locate it.
If you look on our hanging a door page
https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/DIY-superst ... litre.html you will see where the lock block goes.
If the door has been hung the wrong way round, or there is no lock block you can try inserting the screws with little bit of this adhesive around the thread. It sticks absolutely everything !
https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/DIY-superst ... clear.html Take a look at the video as well. To be absolutely sure, you can put a dab of Stixall on the back of the knob itself.
This is the best solution without causing danage to the door as hollow fixings of all kind need much larger holes than the screw threads. This can make fixing impossible if they do not work properly.
Good luck and please do let us know how you get on as this could help others too.
