Floating shelf &plaster wall DIY disaster

by Kaluk85 » Thu Jun 09, 2011 3:45 pm

Hello there,

A few months ago I attempted to fit a floating shelf to a plasterboad wall. I used the special plugs that expand when you drill the screws in but the plugs i think may have been too long and i thought you had to hammer them in so they were wedges between the plaster and the brickwork. So when i came to srew the bracket onto the wall the plaster started to break and crack. I stopped and did not proceed to put the shelf up.

My problem now is that I have a wall in a rented home with 6 holes (2cmx1cm) some of which have cracks in the plaster and some of which have these metal plugs in. Please can someone give me some advice about what to do to salvage/cover up the wall???
Thanks for any suggestions

you can unscrew the rawplugs called (redidrive) and fill the holes with a tube of gripfill, or no nails adhesive. When it sets you can use polyfiller to fill the cracks.
