Hi,
We've just begun renovating a spare room with the intention of sanding back and varnishing the floor boards. First I want to lift them to check for woodworm (it's an old cottage and the upstairs was added later than construction) and put down insulation but the floorboards are fixed to joists which run underneath the dry wall. So it seems that cutting boards may be the only option.
The exterior facing wall joist is probably accessible by removing the skirting giving enough of a joist to reattach the floorboard to, but the interior facing wall extends over the joist. There is a pipe running along the joist making fixing a batten rather difficult.
Any help or advice gratefully received.
