"Floppy" Double Glazing Window Handle

by GwentLarry » Tue Dec 02, 2025 10:44 am

Part Ref: VITA HB118R

UPVC Double Glazing installed about 9 years ago.

Several of the most used handles have become very loose and "floppy".

I have found where I can buy replacements but it's not clear to me where the wear is.

Has anybody else experience this problem? Has just replacing the handle solved the problem.

Thanks,

Hi gwentlarry,
You’re lucky they’ve lasted that long. Assuming you’ve tightened the two fixing screws the wear is likely to be in the handle shaft. If this is the case just fit new handles but pick the ones which come with interchangeable shaft lengths. Occasionally lubricate the handle shaft to reduce wear.

Thanks.

After looking at the handle assembly more carefully, I did confirm it is the handle swivel joint connecting the actual handle to the mount.

Not a great design for what looks like a fairly cheap alloy metal-on-metal movement - could have at least had a washer.

Sourced replacements online without any problem.
