Garage ceiling hooks

by DIYJC » Tue Dec 30, 2008 10:47 pm

Hi
I want to store my cycles suspended from my garage ceiling. As the garage is built in to the house it's ceiling is double layer plaster board (I presume a building reg).
The plastic coated hooks I have only have threads about the thickness of the ceiling and just pull out when weight is applied. I don't know which way the joists run or where they are located as the detector I bought doesn't seem to work at that thickness. Any idea's suggestions :?: Thanks.

DIYJC,
Tap across the ceiling - you should be able to hear where the joist are. Use a fine drill to check the position of the joists and use longer hooks.

Hi,

You could do as stoneyboy says or alternatively fix a batten at right angles to the joists and then fix your hooks to the batten.
