Green gunge on wiring

Post by BT » Wed Aug 08, 2007 11:48 am

Have just moved to a new house and discover that there is a green material staining some of the sockets. Removing them shows green gunge on some wires/terminals. Wiring is probably 30-40 years old. What is the cause of this, I have never seen it before, even in older properties. Does this mean I need to rewire?

BT REACTION WIYH DISIMILAR MEATAL OR
I THINK THE COPPER COULD BE DAMP AND OXIDISING WITH THE
THE GREEN BEING COPPER SULPHATE.
NEEDS A PERIODIC INSPECTION TO ASSESS CONDITION OF
THE INSTALLATION.
