I’m hoping someone can give me some advice on solving a problem with air in my hot water pipes and radiators. I am having to bleed my radiators every day and I have hot water problems. I live on the top floor (6th floor) or a block of flats. I don’t have a boiler in my flat, the heating and hot water is provided from three main communal boilers in a separate area some way away from my flat. They serve 5- 6 blocks of flats with over 50 flats in each block. We’ve been told that the pipes that serve the hot water from the boiler are not wide enough.
I am constantly getting air (cold patches) in my radiators and having to bleed them. The pipes that go to the hot water storage tank are also getting airlocked. I am bleeding these pipes and my radiators every day. If I use a lot of hot water it can take 6 hours or so to get hot again when it should take 15 minutes. Apparently the tank is backing up. Other people on my floor have the same problem.
I have repeatedly reported the problem to the landlords and they are addressing it, but it needs a complete rebuild and we’re talking a year or so until it’s done.
•I can’t live like this in the interim so any ideas on how to prevent this happening beyond bleeding the radiators daily?
•Is there a particular order I need to bleed the radiators in? It’s a one floor flat.
•What about people on the rest of my floor – if they bleed theirs after I have bled mine, will that affect my pipes?
•I don’t use a couple of the radiators (i.e kitchen) so should I bleed those as well anyway?
•How can I stop the hot water pipes from backing up all the time?
