Heated towel rail Help, advice and problem solutions on all aspects of home appliances from washing machines to TV's

Hi all. Question for the plumbers or those with the know how.

I am in the process of building an ensuite in our new bedroom, the heated towel rail, "Can i use 15mm plastic pipe direct to the flow/return valves" as opposed the the traditional copper pipe.

The reason for using plastic is, all the pipework will be boxed in then tiled, i would like it to be joint free in that area untill the pipework exits into a part of the roof that is maintainable for the rest of the pipes.

Yes you can use plastic, the other option would be to use copper with no joints (if possible) or with soldered joints.

I'm not a pro so I pass on this interesting piece of advice from one who is: I was fitting a heated towel radiator too and used nice shiny chromed copper pipe to come up through the floor to the radiator inlet / outlets with plastic pipe and push-fit fittings below the floor onto the chromed pipe. My pro friend said this was a right no, no. The chrome hardens the surface of the copper pipe and so the push-on plastic fittings can't grab hold. This means they are liable to slip off; maybe not straight away but at some point down the line. So don't do it; use compression at that joint.

Sadly my friend didn't tell me before I'd sealed the floor and tiled it... :roll:
