Hi changing downstairs hall way switch 2 gang switch for upstairs and downstairs light but has L3 wires which new swirch don't so guess old standard photo attached
also backplate is earthed is this OK for a chrome faceplate

Sound like your new switch is 2 gang one way, you need a 2 gang 2 way one.
