Help on Preparing/levelling concrete floor for tilling Advice and information on tiling and fixing tiles to a variety of surfaces

Hi all

I have a concrete floor in my kitchen, which is to be tilled with ceramic floor tiles. The floor isn't completely flat/some bumps etc, so I intend to use self levelling compound to level. Then tile after. (makes sense)

What is the correct process to do this.... this is what I am thinking but am not 100% sure, any help would be great.

1: Apply PVA to concrete floor
2: Wait 1.5-2 hours for PVA to set
3: Apply Levelling compound to floor/level out
4: Allow to dry out
5: Apply PVA again to the newly laid floor (not sure on this bit) but imagine its correct
6: wait for 1.5-2 hours for PVA to set
7: Then apply floor tile adhesive
8: Lay tiles etc etc

Some SLC instructions say use PVA but I never use it. All it does is make a skin on the surface. It doesn't seal and it doesn't penetrate.

Never, ever, ever use PVA before tiling. Tile adhesive direct onto the SLC.

whenever PVA is used as a sealer (usually only for SLC and plastering, occasionally cement, screeds and concrete) it should NEVER be left to set. whatever substance you are using should be applied whilst the PVA is still tacky. if it sets, the PVA should be dampened with another weak PVA mix to liven it up before applying whatever compound you are using.

before tiling use a latex or acrylic primer - follow adhesive manufacturers guidelines.
