Help with treating old, weathered and dry cladding on house exterior

by yorkshirewoodworker » Mon May 17, 2021 3:10 pm

The lower half of the back of our house was cladded in decking wood about 10 years ago - we moved in last year and the wood has not been treated, ever - old photos show it was bare untreated wood when fitted. It has completely discoloured / greyed, and it is a bit warped. It's also very dry. I would like to treat the wood to try and preserve it rather than rip it all off and start again.

Any tips / advice on treating dry / discoloured / unloved outdoor decking would be appreciated!

Hi yorkshirewoodworker
You don’t describe whether the grain is seriously opened in some areas but I suspect it will have done so. Whatever you choose to redcoat it it must be something that will soak into the grain and will not form a skin.
Suggest you use something like Sadolin classic or it’s equivalent.
