Hinge type and adjustment process?

Post by Craigslist » Mon Oct 02, 2023 8:12 pm

All

Our front and back doors were fitted about 25 years ago. Unfortunately, they both now have similar issue.

The door handle is extremelyu stiff when closing in door frame. (Last few inches) The problem doesn’t present when trying same movement with door open, so it’s definitely a door adjustment issue. I know there’s different hinges and adjustments, but can’t find our type on Google.

Can anyone help please.

Many thanks

Hi craigslist,
You should be able to remove the two covers on each hinge to expose screws for adjustments. They may be slide off or snap on/off. You will the have to work out which screws to adjust.

Hi

May I ask a follow up on this? My three hinges have Allen bolts at side and underneath each hinge. Am I right in thinking I need to adjust the side screw on each hinge to adjust laterally? (Clockwise or anti clockwise?) I’ve also attached an image of door showing clearly the lack of alignment at top left.

Many thanks

Hi craigslist.
On the frame hinge part I think you need to slacken a top Allen bolt before you can tighten the lower one to lift the door. Sideways adjustment is done with the horizontal Allen bolt and I seem to recall it works the opposite way you would expect ie turn anti-clockwise to pull the door inwards. I think you have to slacken the screws on the face of the hinge to allow adjustments to be made.

Hi again

Quick update. Have now established Iocking problem due to multi lock not door position. Ie it sticks whether door in closed or open position. I’ve added some photos to show the roller lock in the open and closed positions. You can see gap under roller where mechanism not fully closing, (if you pull it manually, it closes and then key turns in lock)

I can add GT85, but think the gearbox probably gone. I can remove screws to check, but wondered if you recognised this 30 year old design. (Two rollers, two hooks and deadbolt etc)

(I know you can just replace gearbox with some systems)

Many thanks again,

Hi craigslist,
After 30 years it likely that many of the mechanisms parts are worn, probably best to fit a complete new mechanism.
Time for lots of measurements and a search online.
