Hot Water Cylinder piping question

by dan.booth » Sat May 06, 2023 7:50 pm

Hi,

I am hoping someone can provide some information on piping to/from a hot water cylinder please?

I have a pipe coming down vertically from the loft (presumably from the cold water storage tank?) into an airing cupboard, with a red gate valve on it. The pipe enters the hot water cylinder on the left hand side at the bottom of the cylinder. If I close the gate valve on this pipe, hot water feed to taps in the house stops.

Am I right in thinking this is the cold water feed into the cylinder, and the hot water to taps stops because I've cut off the pressure due to gravity from the feed? Anything in my assumptions or logic that might not be correct, would appreciate being corrected. Thanks.
