Hot water pump problems

by sim6827 » Sun Jul 08, 2007 7:40 am

After some advice here people.

I am hearing a funny what can only be described as "drumming of morse code" noise coming from the area of the pump in my airing cupboard next to the tank.

Forgive the basic description here I really have no idea about these things!

Also when the boiler temp has been satisfied and the boiler is "on standby" as it were I still have a lound humming present for the entire time period that the boiler is set to be on for i.e. 1.5 hours. This is when the drumming type sounds is most visible, when the boiler kicks in the sound gets quieter and even dissappears.

The body of the pump in the airing cupboard is blisteringly hot, is this right?

The pump in the bathroom is a Myson Compact.

My questions are:-

What is the drumming morse code noise I am hearing and how do I stop it?

What is the humming noise I am hearing when the boiler is on standby, I am not convinced that this is from the pump in the airing cupboard.

Should the body of the pump be scalding hot?

Do I need to get someone out?

Thanks in advance from someone who worries alot about these things but has literally no diy skills to sort them out!
