how do i disconnect push fit connector from my copper piping

Post by simbar » Sat Nov 17, 2007 4:54 pm

I am replacing old bath taps, and as the flexi connectors are old, they now leak a bit. I have never used push fit connectors before, and the flex connector goes into a push fit connector which in turn goes into the copper pie. I need to replace the push fit and the flexi connector, but cant get the push fit off. Sounds stupid, but how do i get it off?

There are several types of fitting, and all easy to remove if you know how.

Firstly, it's a two handed operation. Grab the fitting on the braided side and push as if trying force it further onto the pipe. With the other hand, slide finger and thumb along the copper to the fitting and push the locking collar into the fitting. Keep an even pressure on the fitting between your two hands, and the fitting should slide off the pipe!
