How do I fix this bath and massive gap? Drainage and wastage systems and plumbing help, advice and answers

I've just moved into a new house where the old owner has done a lot of bad DIY. There's a 170cm bath installed in a 185cm gap. The shower is at one end and the drainage on the other end. The 15cm gap is on the drainage end. This is just covered with a plank of wood. It looks awful and leaks. How can I fix this?

Fit an 1850 bath or a batten on the wall flush with the top of the existing bath and tile over it.
