We are redecorating a bedroom and have stripped the walls of existing wallpaper down to the bare plaster. However we are leaving the ceiling papered as it is. We would like to put up some plaster coving but don't know how to get this to fix to the ceiling. Would we have to strip off a few inches of ceiling paper round the edge to get to the plaster underneath (don't like the sound of this)? Or could we scratch through the paper? Any thoughts or experiences to share much appreciated. Thanks. :D

I would cut back the paper and fix using cove adhesive or easy fill

I agree, find out width of coving or use it as a guide and cut through paper with stanley knife just a tadge bigger then coving, then remove the strips and use a coving adhesive to put them up. a bit of decorators chalk to fill any small gaps and you've crack it!

Thanks for the tips. We cut back the ceiling paper to about the width of the coving, scored the plaster in the ceiling and attached the coving with cove adhesive. Now filling in the gaps with caulk. We used gypsum coving which worked really well as our walls/ceilings weren't true, so don't think polystyrene would have worked as well.
