How to fix door handle with wrecked thread

by lorna p » Tue Aug 30, 2022 5:48 pm

One of my door handles has come away from the door and I need to screw it back on, but I can't remove the collar that covers the screws as it won't turn. It never sat completely flush, and I vaguely remember the carpenter who fitted it years ago saying there was an issue with the thread. Any suggestions on how I can remove the collar?

Hi Lorna p,
Tap the collar in all directions on a hard surface then wrap elastic bands around the collar to give you additional grip. Failing this buy a jar lid opener.

Thank you. I finally got it off with the help of some 3in1. It wouldn't go back on flush, but have swapped handles with one in a less conspicious place, so all sorted.
