How to locate and access the low voltage transformer in a conservatory with an apex

Post by ALP » Tue Jan 06, 2026 2:23 pm

I have a conservatory, with an apex in the roof, and there are four lights there.

These were 50W halogen low voltage bulbs, so I swapped them for low wattage versions, and they don't really work.

I want to check on the unit that does the "low voltage-ing", as I suspect it must have a minimum load, and so I should be able to replace it for one that will work - if only I can locate it, and access it!

I have been able to track wiring from where goes up the beam on the roof to the apex, and can see wiring in the apex, but I cannot see the low voltage thingy!

I have also been able to see how to release the apex trim to get a better look - but neither side seems the show a low voltage thingy - nor can I see how to remove the fascia to see if it is hidden there!

I am also just wondering if the low voltage thingy may be in the covering for the guttering, but I don't know if there is the space - or if this is a practical place to have the "thingy"!

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Many thanks,

I do like the way people reply to a response.
