How to Remove Garage Door Timber Frame for Garage Renovation?

by JamieMartin » Tue Jul 24, 2018 12:08 pm

Hi all,

I'm in the process of renovating my garage, and have decided to replace the up-and-over steel door with side-hinged steel doors. I have received the new doors (complete with their new steel frame), but have encountered a snag when trying to work out how to remove the old up-and-over. It has a timber frame, which I was hoping would be bolted to the wall. But instead it seems to be attached by metal pegs/pins/rods, and am unsure a) what exactly these 'pegs' are (and the fixing method that's been used to attach the timber frame to the brickwork) and b) what would be the best method to remove the door and frame? Ideally I'd like to remove the door/frame together as a single unit, but not sure how feasible that is. I've attached a couple of photos showing the metal peg-like fixings that are barely visible, sitting flush within the timber frame.

Any pointers/advice regarding what I'm dealing with,. and best course of action would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Jamie
