How to remove old adhesive hooks from doors? General problems, solutions, information and advice on fixing to walls of all kinds

Hello
I have 2 wooden laminated door which the previous owner attached 2 plastic hooks to with the adhesive pads. (see photos)
I would like to remove them without damaging the doors if possible.
Can anyone offer advice on how to do this?

What I have done in the past is to get some GooGone (available in DIY stores, I believe), Trickle a few drops at the top of the hooks and leave for a little while. Then gently pull away, adding more GooGone if necessary.

Thanks for reply, However, as I live in Italy I reckon this brand is not readily available.
