how to up old wood

how to restore the wood of an old oak fender, it is very old and dirty most of the polish is worn away. also old oak chair the same.

Try first by using wire wool dipped in white spirit - you may need to use a wire brush to clean out the grain. If this has the desired effect recoat with an oil based varnish.
If this does not get the wood clean enough you may have to consider chemical stripping - have a look on the project pages under stripping paint.
