Immersion Heater with no timer

by Farmstro » Sat May 02, 2009 8:23 pm

Moving soon to a flat where hot water heated by electric immersion. Is it cheaper to leave it on 24 hours a day rather than 1 or 2 hours in the morning and evening? Don't want to run up huge electricity bill!!

If is on an Economy seven(night storage /cheap rate) it will come on automatically,at the times proscribed by the supply company, to provide a full tank of hot water. It will have an integral thermostat which will switched it off and on during this period when the set temperature is reached.
It may also be a dual immersion, which will allow a daytime top-up, of half a tank, but at normal tarif.
Do you have storage heaters in the flat?
Probably better to leave the first on, particularly if the tank is well insulated, the second really depends on your water usage pattern.
