Insulating wall with blocked up fireplace

by DomR » Tue Jan 19, 2021 9:36 am

Hello,

I am currently doing up my old 1860s house, up stairs in all the bedrooms there are bricked up fireplaces on the external walls, each fireplace seems to have been done right with an airbrick etc. The chimney has a log burner in use downstairs. My issue is these walls are solid sandstone and extremely cold. It's sucking the heat out of the room, I want to insulate ideally by putting up a stud walls with kingspan or celotex boards but I'm concerned about covering over the fireplace as I've read about them needing the air flow.

What are people's experiences/thoughts on this?

Thanks
