Is this a Gas Pipe Protruding our of Kitchen Floor

by SeanRocks » Wed Jul 13, 2016 10:12 am

Hi

Per the attached image, I have a pipe protruding from the floor in the kitchen where the previous owner had his cooker. I suspect that it is a gas pipe but would like confirmation.

I am a bit confused as to why there is no shut-off. Can anyone please advise if an in-line shut-off can be added?

Also, what type of connection would fit this type of pipe fitting?

Sorry for the poor picture.

Thanks in advance

Almost certainly a gas pipe, the bayonet fitting 1/2 would connect from the pipe to the cooker hose

I think it is to say this was originally a gas supply for a cooker.
What exactly is in the end of the pipe fitting?
A bayonet female socket would not require a gas shut off valve, as the nature of the bayonet socket would serve that purpose, but the picture seems to suggest that the socket has been removed ?
This now needs to be investigated into further, it could be that the pipe is now redundant and no longer is connected to the gas supply, but it could still be a live pipe! So the manner of the way and if the pipe has been sealed/capped of appropriately is very important!.

Thank you for all the responses. I have called in a gas Safe engineer who will do a safety check and advise.

Wishing you all well and thanking you again
