Is this roof safe or does it need immediate attention?

by gregblack » Fri Mar 02, 2012 4:07 pm

Hello this roof has already shed the outer end ridge tile back in January but it has been replaced. I am concerned about the lack of cement under the ridge tile and one tile looks ready to come off. As this is not my roof but the other half of the semi I live in I would appreciate any comment on what needs doing and the previous work done.

Sorry 3 of the pics are sideways but I wanted to show max size. If anyone is interested I could email hi-res pics to them.

gregblack,
Apart from a gable end ridge tile most ridge tiles will stay in place even if they look as though the bedding mortar has failed. With the modern roof shown in your pictures it is a possibilty that wires were incorporated in the ridges.
Since this is not your roof ignore it.

Hi though I would like to ignore it I can not as it has already shed one ridge tile causing £600 worth of damage to my Jeep Cherokee, the Jeep was sorned at the time and not insure and I can not afford that to happen again

unless there is a major storm forcast in the next few days then its ok.Ideally its best to remove the entire ridge tiles and rebed them, paint a pva solution on the underside of the tiles and set them in place this will prevent them from any slippage.
