Hello all. I'm decorating my hall at the moment and on one of the walls i've stripped there is a smoke alarm that is connected to the mains. I want to get rid of the alarm by completely removing it and capping the exposed wires, pushing them back into the wall and filling over it.
Can anyone advise me on the correct procedure here please.

Your not going to like this. In order to be allowed to conceal wires within a wall one must keep the wires within set zones which includes vertical and horizontal paths to the equipment it feeds. If you remove the equipment then you will be no longer permitted the cables as the zone will no longer exist so they must be removed. If you were for example to replace smoke alarm with a socket box and blanking plate it would show where the wires are running so would be permitted but live cables in a wall without some indication as to their existence is not permitted.
