Joins in new Felt Roof on Garage

by plusfire8 » Mon May 20, 2019 5:48 pm

I have just had my garage roof re-covered with roofing felt by a tradesman.

I was surprised to see that some of the sheets running across the garage had been joined and were not in a single sheet. What I mean is that if the garage is 10 feet wide then he has used an 8 foot length and added a 2.5 foot piece with a 6 inch overlap.

He tells me this is standard practice. If the roll runs out he cuts a piece off the next roll and adds that to reach the edge.

It doesn't look like good practice to me but am I worrying unnecessarily please?

Yes you are worrying. I do this all the time.

Think of it this way. A standard roll is 8 metres long, if the roof is 4 runs at 6 metres each it doesn't make sense to buy and waste two metres on each roll.

Thanks Makie, that's very reassuring to know that is standard practice.
Many thanks for your time.
