Leak from hot water tank, quick fix?

by Robboyo » Tue Oct 17, 2023 10:45 am

Hey.
We have a leak from the top of this pipe that’s leaking down onto the ground floor back boiler which is causing some electrical problems.
We have had a plumber out who said they’ll need to drain the whole system first which could take hours and cost a lot. Wondering if there’s any fixes I can try myself before going down that route? We plan on buying a combi boiler over the next few weeks so I don’t want this to be a big cost. Looking for quick fixes. The plumper put the black tape around to the leak to help.

Hi robboyo,
It’s difficult to advise when it’s not possible to see what’s leaking. Presumably if it’s a joint the plumber would have tried tightening it so a partial drain of the system will be needed to lower water levels below the leaking joint.
In all probability there is no quick fix especially with the offending pipe being so close to the HWC.
Regards S
