Leaking hot water cylinder

by dmk » Mon Nov 05, 2007 1:53 pm

I have a leaking hot water cylinder with a double coil (immersion heater, oil fired central heating and an oil fired aga), because of the cost of copper the cost is over £1000 to replace the cylinder. I cannot afford this and someone said to drain the cylinder and then cover the leaking area with araldite glue. do you think it would work as a temporary measure ? It is leaking about half way down the cylinder where a pipe goes into the tank. If anyone thinks it might work, how do I go about doing it. Many thanks

Deirdre

hi
isolate the cold water supply to the tank or turn off the stop valve(cock)
and run the hot water until it stops
i would go to a plumbers merchant and see what sealants they have follow instructions and apply and yes it would be a temp measure but then again it may last years?
good luck
