Hi,
While balancing the heating in our old house today (after a decorating project that required the system to be drained) one of the lock shield valves developed a significant leak (from around the spindle).
I have seen tutorials on fixing the packing gland but am uncertain if this would work with the valves we have. The valve on this radiator is adjusted with a screw. There is a steady trickle of water when the valve is fully open or closed, which becomes significant while opening/closing the valve.
I started to remove the gland cover (?) but towards the end of its thread the flow of water from around its thread became significant.
I would welcome advice on:
- whether it's safe to remove (what I believe to be) the gland cover?
- whether this leak is likely to be repairable or whether I need to replace the valve unit?
Thank you.
