I have an existing lighting circuit with new cables but without the earth cable. There are no metal switches or light fittings. The boxes behind the
switches are metal (unearthed). Is this legal/safe, or do I need to renew the wiring?

Hi Vince, up untill early 1960's lighting circuits didn't have earths, current advice is as long as no metal cased lights/switches etc then OK but if for instance a consumer unit change required Leckie advised to tell homeowner that inst. does not comply with current regs & must write it on any cert. issued. might be an issue if wishing to sell/rent out,
