lights in house flickering and sockets buzzing

by wilbur » Sat Feb 14, 2009 3:11 pm

Im having problems in my house with the lights and sockets.
The lights keep flickering and the sockets are buzzing. Ive had an electrician have a look and of course it didnt happen when he was in so couldnt find the problem. he did check the metre and said the the main switch may be faulty so we had that swapped which didnt help. We then got our electrical supplier to test the cables comming in to the house as well as the main supply to our area but was told that there was no problems.

No one seams able to help me.

wilbur,
I assume you are not claiming that all sockets are buzzing so:
individually unplug all appliances connected and turned on the next time the flickering occurs.
See if turning on the immersion or electric cooker (if you have one) causes the lights to flicker.
You do need to establish whether the problem is in your home or to do with the supply coming in.
end

Hi wilbur,
Get another electrician in, it seems strange that you have problems on two different circuit, most faults can be found where cables are terminated for example your light fitting, socket-outlet or CU , i'd be wanting a continuity and IR test to make sure you have a healthy system.
