Lining Paper Woes and Visible Paint Ridges

by Banstead175 » Sat Apr 18, 2020 7:22 pm

Hi, was looking for some help please. Our lounge walls are very flat, but have old paint on them as in the picture. If you run your hand over it you can hardly feel the paint. Have tried two layers of both a wall doctor fibreliner with a 1400 lining paper over the top and still all these paint ridges can be seen when light shines on the wall ! - any tips or ideas to not have these paint ridges show gratefully received - thank you

Hi banstead175,
You are going to have to fill the patches, sand them to give a perfectly flat finish, prime and then paint or line the wall

.

Many thanks for your reply. There are actually no ridges to fill ! - the old paint is almost as flat as the wall. If you run your hand over the wall you can hardly feel the paint. Sanding it is a nightmare, the paint is so ground into the wall. Was just wondering if there was any other way of lining it that would hide these blemishes, wall doctor fibreliner doesnt. Thanks again

Hi Banstead 175,
If you can see the ridges underneath lining paper they must be fairly pronounced. Either fill and sand or have a skim coat of plaster applied to the wall.
