loud noises

by C23kW » Wed Jul 15, 2009 11:09 am

someone i know, they have a back boiler. But when they run the hot tap there is a loud noise coming from some of the pipes under the shower (near the bath). The bathroom floor also vibrates. Whether its the bath, basin and downstaris sink tap, the noise will persist, and a little while shortly after the tap is turned off. the noise is worst when using the bath tap, whether the use and consumption affects this problem..? However when the noise happens, if i run the cold tap the noise stops. my thoughts have been water hammer, or mayb air is trapped in the primaries, or the cylinder could be havng problems draining the water (pipes blocked). The cylinder is located in the attic.... Any ideas guys??

Change ball valve on tank, it's making the noise when the hot tap is used. When the hot tap is closed the tank is still filling for a short while.

100% sure that's your problem.
