Main equipotential bonding

by peterconnolly » Thu Aug 02, 2007 4:13 pm

Hi,

As a new Part P person (still green) I am looking at replacing a consumer unit. I have checked the main bonding to the water and gas. The clamps were a little corroded and will be replaced. However I suspect there is a bigger problem that could cause a major problem. Both are 6mm cables rather than the regulation 10mm.

Replacing them would be a rather major job with liftting floor boards and even pulling out section of the kitchen.

Would any of the experienced sparks please provide and advice or guidance.

Thanks in advance.

WHEN DOING CONTINUITY OF MAIN EARTHING AND EQUIPOTENTIAL BONDING CONDUCTORS , THE READING OBTAINED
MUST BE NOT BE MORE THAN 0.05 OMHS.
PERSONALLY IF I AM DOING MY OWN WORK AND SELF CERTIFYING
THE INTEGRITY OF THE EARTHING CONDUCTORS ( NORMALY USED FOR
PROTECTION AGAINST INDIRECT CONTACT I E EEBADS )
I INTERPRET SIZE OF CONDUCTOR REQUIRED FROM BS7671.
U HAVE SAID 10 MM2 , AND NORMALLY UP TO 35 MM2 TAILS IT IS.
BASICALLY 10 MM2 I WOULD INSTALL , TO BS7671.
THERE R NORMALY WAYS USING MINI TRUNKING ECT DOWN EDGES OF WALLS TO ACCOMADATE CABLES RATHER THAN UPHEAVAL OF TOO MUCH KITCHEN AND FLOOR BOARDS.
IT IS A NIGHTMARE IN A OCCUPIED HOME BUT PERSONALLY I WOULD FIND A WAY TO INSTALL.
