Have a long standing intermittent leak in ceiling which only occurs about once or twice a year so difficult to trace. Builder who investigated said the Marley tiles were in good condition and looked for other sources. After a recent storm one tile came off and a roofing company arrived saying they were doing a neighbours roof and noticed I needed a tile replaced. They came this morning and said the entire roof needed replaced and said the tiles were worn away.
I got a second quote this afternoon and the roofer said the tiles were fine but the wood needed replaced. He suggests stripping the roof, replacing the wood, and putting on new battons but putting the old tiles back on. He suggests we could not buy tiles of that quality today and they are far superior to the flat Malrey tile you can buy today.
The tiles are about fifty years old.The full roof replacement is £30k (117 sq m) and the second job is £7500 plus £1500 to replace the ridge with a more modern system. Any comments on lifespan of Marley ridged tiles and our experience so far.
