Hi
I have a problem as in I am replacing an old woodburner in our house and our living room is on the first floor.
The old one was on a small tiled hearth that wont meet building regs so has to go and the wood burner is old and of the tin type with fire bricks inside.
I will be replacing it with a new cast iron which weighs 130KG (the old one weighes about the same as is bigger but not as well made)
To meet the building regs the new hearth will be 56 inches wide and 33 inches deep and about 6 inches thick. This will be made of limestone. I would guess that it will weigh around the 300KG mark ?
My query is will the floor joists be ok with this amount of weight?
They are 2inches thick and 8 inches deep and spaced out at 18 inches.
The hearth and fire will butt upto the wall so all the weight is on the edges of the room and will span 3 or 4 joists.
This is on a load bearing wall that is solid brick to the ground with no doors or windows below.
Any advice will be most welcome
Thanks
