Metal door frames and non-standard door sizes...

by tootinggirl » Wed Jan 30, 2008 8:46 pm

I've just moved into an ex-local authority flat which has metal door frames for all interior doors. Any advice on dealing with them would be appreciated - can they be removed? If so who would do this and put in wooden frames? If not, how can I make them look more attractive?

The doors that are currently in place are also ugly and non-standard sizes so not too easy to replace them. Any advice on where to get non-standard doors also appreciated!

Many thanks!

I can't believe that a local authority would commision a door to be made in a non-standard size, rather than buy the cheapest door they could find off the peg.
What size are the doors, in ' ", as there are 4 sizes of standard door:
2'3", 2'6", 2'8", and 2'9".
Any good General Builder/Carpenter should be able to remove the metal frames, fit new linings and architrave, and hang new doors.
