I have inherited a ceiling that does not look like it has been taped and joined properly as there is movement between each board. The ceiling is stippled and it looks like they have used the artex instead of jointing compound. Is it possible to apply new tape and jointing compound over the artex, or should I remove the artex and old tape (do not really want to go down this route if I can avoid it). Or would it just be easier to line the ceiling over the existing one? It looks like this ceiling was done by the same person who painted with gloss over the stippled in my living room.
