Multiple damp patches in circa 1850 property back bedroom?

by MAE789 » Mon Dec 19, 2022 2:13 pm

Hi All,

We have recently moved into a detached property built circa 1850. In the backroom of the house, we have multiple damp patches appeared, as shown in the attached photos. There is obvious evidence of damp on the chimney breast, however the harth appears dry (unsure if the chimney is capped or not). The room is on one corner of the house, with two external walls and two internal walls. there is patches of them on three of the walls, it looks like the room has been recently re decorated and have left new skirting board in the room to be replaced. does anyone have any idea on what is causing this please? my wife has given birth in the past week, and this is obviously of grave concern. Today has been mild and wet and there is no damp in the room above.

Many thanks.

Mark

Hi mae789,
You clearly have very serious damp issues in this bedroom, start by getting a dehumidifier and running it 24/7. Pick a smart one which will adjust its speed according to humidity levels.
The extensive nature of the damp indicates an issue with the solid walls and/or rainwater goods, so suggest you contact a couple of damp firms for advice.
Regards S
